Commercial doors hang on pivots, butt hinges or a continuous hinge that runs the full height of the door. Every one of them wears. When it does, the door drops, the bottom corner starts scraping the threshold, the top rubs the frame and the lock stops lining up with the strike. Prestine Glass Solutions replaces hinges and pivots on storefront and entry doors across the DMV.
Catching it early matters. A door left dragging on a worn pivot strains the closer, bends the stile and wears a groove in the threshold, which turns a small repair into a new door.
Top and bottom pivots on aluminum storefront doors, including the intermediate pivot on taller doors.
Worn or loose hinges replaced, and continuous hinges fitted where a door keeps failing.
If the door has dropped far enough that it will not lock, treat it as urgent.
Look at the gap between the door and the frame. If it is wider at the top on the latch side and tight at the bottom, the door has dropped. Other signs are a scrape mark on the threshold, a door that has to be lifted to lock, and a grinding or clicking noise as it swings. We check the pivots, the hinge screws and the frame they are fixed to, because a loose fixing in a damaged frame will pull out again.

We also fit pivots as part of new entry door installation and commercial door replacement, so the door is hung right from the start. If your entrance has had the same pivot problem more than once, we look at whether the door is too heavy for its hardware or whether the frame needs attention, and say so.

Usually the bottom pivot or the hinges have worn and the door has dropped. Replacing them lifts the door back into place.
A pivot carries the door at the top and bottom, while hinges are fixed along the edge. Many aluminum storefront doors use offset pivots.
Most of the time. If the stile is bent or the corners have pulled apart, replacement may be the better option.
